Movie Pitch
First of all, for me making movies is a tremendously fun experience. However, I want to make my movie to help students who may be facing certain struggles their first semester of college, as I am facing them myself. The specific struggle that I’m targeting is falling into a monotonous routine, one that affects every aspect of your life and leads to an unbalanced lifestyle.
The tittle of my film is “Assembly Line Student”. As the tittle foreshadows, the film is about this student named Phil who would wake up to this frantic alarm, wear the same clothe everyday, do the same things every day, to an exaggerated degree. He would wake up, get dressed, walk to class, sit down take the class, eat, take more classes, study and go to sleep. He would barely have any type of social interaction and when confronted with any social interaction he would not be able to react, being stuck in this type of wormhole routine (the routine is comedy based, although it’s a very serious topic). Not even his roommate Josh would be able to snap him out of it. As Phil is studying (first person point of view doing homework you can hear him making noises, messy hair, and very tired) a voice is heard in the background: “Hey man, want to go play some soccer with me and Peter? You could use the fresh air.” (Camera angle changes, showing Phil’s back and the roommate waiting for a response) Phil responds very unenthusiastically: “Can’t, I have to study now, it’s on my planner (turns his chair around and points at his planner)” Josh responds: “Ok, good luck. See you later” (roommate leaves). As John leaves (camera follows him) he would become worried, as he knows his roommate is falling into a routine that was for lack of other words: depressing. He saw how Phil would lose emotion and happiness every passing day (Flashback to Phil’s routine). When Josh gets to the field and sees peter he says how they needed to organize an intervention for Phil, Peter would agree on how he has noticed Phil’s decaying attitude. The next day Phil would open the door to his room to be surprised by Josh, Peter and other friends in a circle. Phil would take a seat, they would all be there and Josh explains why they are all here and how they are all worried about him. At first he would be in denial, saying how there is nothing wrong with him, “I am just studying! In fact I should be studying right now!” Josh would calm him down. Everybody had something they had written. Papers containing short messages such as: “Taking a break from time to time is healthy”, “You can call me up to have lunch whenever you want”, among others. After reading all the letters his friends wrote for him about his behavior and how it’s not healthy for him, he says: “Thanks for worrying about me, I’ll think about everything that you guys said”. (Highlight of key shot: Camera angle here goes through each of the friends and switches to the protagonist, in the end it zooms in and he responds: “Thanks for worrying about me, I’ll think about everything that you guys said). The end would show Phil in his room doing homework with his planner to his right side, in the planner it can be read marked in red: “STUDY!” (The camera angle shows him looking at his roommate’s soccer ball, he sighs, moves the chair as if he is going to move and the screen fades into black). What is shown later is Phil going up to Josh who was in the lounge and asking: “Want to kick the ball around for a while?” Josh responds: “Sure! Let’s Go”. Both walk out of the scene (camera angle from behind following them, screen fades to black and credits appear).
